There is a paddling pool for toddlers too and lots of sun lounges. It's not huge but since it's rare that everyone is there at the same time it doesn't matter. The pool is a great size with a shallow end. (Each one is unique so it's worth investigating, not all have enclosed gardens which can be a disadvantage with a toddler). They aren't super-lux but that way you don't worry about your 3 little tornados rampaging around, and they all come with a small private outdoor area and an essential BBQ. The houses are lovely, clean, comfortable and very well-equipped, although some have been more recently updated than others. Carlux is small with a bar, boulangerie and a couple of shops for essentials, and can be reached in 5 minutes by car, 15 minutes through the field/woods or 45 minutes coaxing a screaming toddler down the road, heavily protesting because they'd rather be messing around in the lovely communal swimming or on the swings in the play area. Its surrounded by woods at the back (that has a chicken wire fence a few metres in to stop children wandering too far) and a field at the front which leads down the village. Speed bumps mean cars have to go very slowly indeed so kids can play on bikes and scooters. We have been staying Les Gites De Carlux for a number of years now so it's high time we give it the fabulous review it deserves! The site itself consists of a long drive leading up a hill to 12 gites or so which are arranged in a sort of horseshoe shape. It was great! A last positive note is that if you have questions, concerns or something is not going as planned, you always can reach out to the on-site concierge and the owners, who are immediately assisting were they can. The first week of our stay, we had the swimming pool for us alone.

We rented the gite during the 2 first weeks of July, which appeared to be the perfect choice, since most of the guests only arrive around the mid of July until August. The view on Carlux, with its castle, from the terrace of the gite is incredible, certainly with a glass of wine from the Bergerac region accompanied of some crisps or regional sausage or foie gras on a toast. The house has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and holds room for 6 adults (and 1 toddler).

We stayed in the gite called “Anemone”, which is very spacious, clean and has all what you need for sunny or rainy days. You can rent swimming pool toys, rackets and balls at the pool house and get touristic information on what to do in the region.

The playground has seen its best days, but our 2 kids (6 & 8y) enjoyed it very much. The badminton court, table tennis, table soccer, petanque and playground are also available to the visitors of the resort. The small resort also has its own outdoor swimming pool, with sufficient sunbeds for all guests. The location is appropriate for families or groups of people wanting to relax, discover the nature or history or do some sports in the region. "Les Gites De Carlux" is a small grouping of interconnected gites, with all of the necessary amenities to stay a great independent holiday in the heart of the Dordogne.
